WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY

Moon Bay Condominium has very wheelchair and stroller friendly grounds. The "A" building has a wheelchair accessible elevator. The property grounds feature wheelchair accessibility to the tennis courts, swimming pool, docks, picnic tables, and clubhouse. There are boardwalk pathways throughout the property as well as access to and from the property without any steps.

There are steps up to the smaller "kiddie" swimming pool, and up to the sun deck located on top of the clubhouse. There are also three steps onto the very end of the main dock.

Penthouse A501 has been recently remodeled (March 2004) to incorporate greater wheelchair accessibility. The unit features all tile floors, the doorways have been widened to 30" or greater clearance (except the 1/2 bathroom) and feature lever hardware. The entrance door features a low threshold, lower privacy/view hole, lowered privacy lock, and a "push-button" electronic combination dead-bolt lock, lever hardware, and a screen/storm door with lever hardware.

The full bathroom features a 30" clearance doorway, tile walls and floors, a roll-under sink with lever hardware, a roll-in shower with grab bars, lever hardware, hand-held adjustable shower massage, and lowered shower shelves. While we have done major remodeling, the bathroom does not have a clear 60" turning circle, however, it is quite functional.

The ceiling fans in both bedrooms and the main room have lights and feature remote controls with variable speed and on/off/dimmer functions and TV control all-in-one.

The tables in the dining room and lanai allow a wheelchair beneath them. The kitchen peninsula has limited overhang, but still allows useable access.

The kitchen sink faucet features a lever control and head/sprayer extension. Due to size and space restrictions the icemaker is in the top of the refrigerator/freezer, and the microwave oven is located above the stove.

Key Largo

Key Largo, along with the rest of the Florida Keys, has fairly good accessibility. That is to say, it is nice and flat! There are many paved pathways to stroll/roll along, and accessible parks, public areas, stores, and restaurants. The Keys are made up of coral; so much of the area is wheelchair friendly even when not paved.
